Prioritizing subaltern everyday perspectives, her research interests center on violence/nonviolence, radical activism and social movements, human rights violations and resistance, anti-racism and anti-colonial struggles. For her PhD (2011, SOAS) she conducted a 19-month fieldwork research in the Occupied Palestinian Territories including East-Jerusalem and Gaza. Concurrent fieldwork was carried out in Syria and Bahrain and her ongoing research project extends to South Africa and Nepal. Emphasizing anti-racism and social justice struggles, her current work focuses on nonviolent resistance in armed conflict (Palestine), the transition between armed and unarmed struggle (Nepal) and anti-racism and anticolonial activism (South Africa and the Netherlands). Born from the necessity of doing “fieldwork under fire”, research ethics and innovative methodology have grown central to her work and are also reflected in her teachings. ## Work ### Associate Professor | University of Amsterdam ### Academic, Assistant Professor | Universiteit van Amsterdam ### Academic, Assistant Professor | Universiteit van Amsterdam ### Assistant Professor | University of Amsterdam ### Assistant Professor Conflict Studies | University of Amsterdam ### Junior Lecturer | SOAS University of London ## Education ### University of Amsterdam | Research master ### University of Amsterdam | Bachelor of Science ### SOAS University of London | Ph.D ## Publications ### Militarism and Israeli Society book-review ### Teaching the Enlightened Student Knowledge Production in Higher Education book-chapter ### Key note: The Arts & Politics of learning/Teaching the Middle East Middle Eastert Studies Conference 2022MA conference-paper ### ‘Noem de situatie in Israël geen conflict of oplaaiend geweld’ Het Parool journal-article ### Noem de situatie in Israël geen conflict of oplaaiend geweld Parool newspaper-article ### Power, nonviolence and hidden violence (invited speaker) Invited speaker Violence, health and everyday (non)life: Gaza and beyond. conference-paper ### Health and Freedom: The Tense Interdependency of HIV/AIDS Interventions and LGBTIQ Activism in Kenya Kohl: Journal for Body and Gender Research journal-article ### Health and Freedom Kohl: a Journal for Body and Gender Research journal-article ### Violence in Nonviolent Action: Power Relations in Joint Activism in Israel and Palestine The Journal of Resistance Studies journal-article ### Violence in Nonviolent Action: Power Relations in Joint Activism in Israel and Palestine.
